It’s been longer for me to post than I anticipated. Most of my time has been sleeping or taking pills since Thursday! I can’t quite remember what I was expecting prior to surgery, but I can tell you what I am experiencing. A bit of pain. Pain. I also itch. Big time.
Everyone at the hospital was incredibly nice. They gave me valium, which was very nice of them. We arrived on time, and I was immediately sent back. Harriet was able to stay with me for most all the prep for surgery. They took me to the breast center in a wheel chair, since I was high on valium, had me climb on a table and drop my breast in a hole, gave me an ultra sound and stuck a wire in my breast. Then I had 2 more mammograms on the machine all us women use, but I was in a wheel chair. Fun, fun that was.
When we got back to my hospital bed, Harriet was there and kissed me bye and that’s all I remember. Hours later I woke up in the same place with a different nurse. No Harriet. Lots of delay I did not understand, and tubes coming out of my surgical bra with blood in them. Where were my tits? How could they possibly be this little?
Well, I did tell the surgeon – “make them as small as you can.” Now since I was a 42 DDD I figured about as small as they could go was a C, and even talked to the surgeon and her PA about it. I don’t think I am a C. I really look like I am 13 again. So that is a bit of a shock. However, when I add up the weight of what they took off, it is only about 3 pounds, so I must be wrong. It’s not like I can take the bandages off yet and really look at them.
Harriet and my girl are taking excellent care of me. My sister came to visit on Saturday and cooked for us and brought us healty foods! One of my many friends stopped by on Sunday and brought us a wonderful dinner. I actually did a bit of work today. Don’t worry, not much. Mama would approve.
