What d’you have??

It has occurred to me that I have not actually informed you of what I am diagnosed with.

What I have is invasive ductal adenocarcinoma, grade 1. What that means is I have some cancer cells that started growing (it looks like 10 years ago looking at my past mammograms) in one of the many many ducts in my right breast that have now made their way out of the duct (that is the invasive part).

The cancer is the most common form of breast cancer that people get and the easiest to treat. The testing determined that my cancer cells tested positive for estrogen and progesterone receptors. That means, it likes my hormones, that is what it is eating.

It has been determined that I DO NOT have any of the known genetic issues that can cause a person to have a fast-growing cancer. Therefore, I am expecting that this Thursday the surgeon will remove the cancer from my right breast, and then that tissue will be further tested to confirm the current theory – that I have grade 1 easy breast cancer.

It is expected that I will be treated with radiation over several weeks. That will be a daily process Monday through Friday. Towards the end I will probably have less energy and feel not so great. It is also possible, but not likely, that I will have chemo.

The tissue testing will probably take a week or two, then the doctors will discuss what treatment I will have once my surgery incisions heal.

Alrighty then, I guess I am having cancer surgery! I sure wish Mama was here to drive me crazy at the hospital.
